When writing An Existential Crisis While Running Late to Work on a Thursday, (Thursday’s Existential Crisis for short) I was fascinated by the seemingly absurd causes of personal crisis often experienced by young working professionals. I believe this experience is not limited by gender, as I myself have experienced it. In the case of this work I was thinking about how being mere minutes late to work can invoke a feeling of such a profound anxiety, which in some ways mimics the anxiety of realizing how short the entirety of your existence is. In some ways this work is comparing small units of time against seemingly infinite units of time. Perhaps the information age has made us realize the size of society and how small the individual is when compared to it. This concept often shows up as jo//// in late night comedy sketches, or web comics. Humor might be a way of acknowledging such concepts and yet liberating oneself from the burden. At some point you just have to enjoy the absurdity of it.
